Wellspring Philanthropic Fund supported the realization of human rights and social and economic justice for all people.
After 25 years of grantmaking, Wellspring's Board of Trustees made the difficult decision, in August 2024, to wind down the foundation. Wellspring will cease all operations and grantmaking by or before the end of 2028. Since Wellspring launched, in 2001, we have held strong to a commitment and approach to grantmaking that was rooted in respect for the dignity and worth of every human being. We believed social justice movements should employ means consistent with their ideals and give agency to the people whose interests they seek to advance. Wellspring's investments reflected our commitment to promoting the realization of human rights and access to economic justice. Wellspring is proud to have supported thousands of organizations in their work to support and strengthen communities in the U.S. and across the globe. Our decades of grantmaking have been guided by a focus on addressing systemic drivers of inequity, building power among marginalized communities and countering structural discrimination. Through the work of dedicated and amazing organizations, Wellspring as an institution, and our committed staff, have been reminded of the power of movements to demand more and to drive change for a better society and world.
